Biodiversity Bioblitz weekend
Come and join Gippsland Intrepid Landcare as we partner with Wonyip Landcare for a weekend of learning and adventure in the Strezlecki Hills on the 3rd-4th February 2024.
Wonyip Landcare are incredibly lucky to live in a part of Gippsland where wildlife is flourishing. Wonyip already know that they have platypus, Strzelecki Koalas, Bogong moths, Eels, Powerful Owls, Burrowing crayfish and a bunch of other threatened species in there district, but they have never done a survey!
In order to quantify just how biodiverse the region is, volunteers will be partnered up with resident experts to venture out and run biodiversity surveys to do the following:
General observations uploaded to iNaturalist
Collect water samples from the headwaters of Dingo Creek, Golden Creek and Little Albert River for eDNA sampling to detect platypus and other species
Assist with night spotting with thermal cameras (likely thermal imaging drones) for koalas and other arboreal species
Take audio for frog ID
Take audio for bird ID
Undertake evening insect ID using lights and sheets
Intrepid will combine the data weekend with fun activities including a movie, dinner and camp out at Binginwarri Hall.
Places are limited and will be on a first come, first served basis so get in quick!
What to bring:
Water bottle and own reusable cutlery
Lunch for Saturday
